Here in Australia, when a person begins working properly, his government payment stops, as may his wife's payment and sometimes even payments for the children. This creates difficulty, especially if he travels and leaves them without those payments so that they must depend on what he earns. Some Iraqis, including some believers, tell the Australian government that they are separated from their wives so that they can work freely without affecting the wife's or children's payments and obtain other benefits. Under Australian law, separation does not mean divorce; it is a status below divorce and requires only filling out a form. What is the religious ruling?
